This is my first post, and I like to share a curious fact, at least to me, about the consumption of rosé wine in France.
If you saw “about me”, you know I was born and grow up
in Argentina (if not, now you know) a country where the wine es highly important. Nevertheless, and probably because our
gastronomic culture, drinking rosé is not our virtue, but in the last years we
started to change that.
When I moved to France, and whitout any
knwonledge in their language, but eager to taste their wines, my first option
was buy it in the supermarket, a place where we don’t need to interact with
anyone. I was so surprised by
the multiple options of rosé offered, much more than white wine, in Argentina
that is unimaginable.

Ok, you going to say, France has “La Provence”, the paradaise of rosé, but they also have prestigious white wine’s zones, from the exquisite acidity of alsace to the complex and sweet sauternes. Nonetheless french people love rose and with an exponensial growth in times of heat, so much so, the rosé wine is sold almost 8 times more in supermarkets than white wine.
Of course, our protagonist is so versatile if
we talk about paring. Here, where the salad use to be a main course and not a
side dish like in Argentina and the pasta is eaten with lighter sauces, the
rosé is one of the best options. In addition to that, fish, cheeses, of course, desserts
created with red fruit and butter, and recipes with flavors that are focused on
complexity over intensity contribute to the choice of this type of wine.
If about prices we talk, for less than €10 are
decent options, in my opinion, with the white wine is a little bit complicated.
To finish… and speaking about money, France is the world’s leading producer,
exporter and importer country of rosé wines. Ok, sometimes Spain becomes the
number one exporter, but in general terms is France.
Just to make the caveat, not only provence produces rosés, Corsica is very important too, and even Bordeaux has beautiful rosés.
How is it in your country or city? Do you drink rosé? more or less than white or red wine ?
